Active Addis
Last updated: 25 August 2026
We collect what we need to run your membership: who you are, which venues you use, and where you are at the moment you check in. We do not sell your data, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and there is no advertising in Active Addis. You can delete your account and everything attached to it from the Profile screen at any time.
When you sign up we collect your phone number, first and last name, date of birth and gender. You may also add an email address and a profile photo. Date of birth lets us confirm you meet the minimum age and helps venues with age-restricted classes. Corporate members may have some of these fields pre-filled by their employer.
Your profile photo is shown to staff at a partner venue when you check in, so they can confirm that the person entering is the member who booked. This is the reason we ask for it. If you set a photo we store it on our servers; removing it from your profile removes it from ours.
Active Addis uses your device location for two things. First, to sort venues and classes by how near they are to you. Second, to verify that you are actually at a venue when you check in — the app compares your position against the venue location, and check-in fails if you are too far away. We only read your location while the app is open; we never track you in the background, and you can refuse or withdraw the permission in your device settings. Refusing it means distance sorting and QR check-in will not work, but the rest of the app still does.
We record your bookings, check-ins, venue and class ratings, favourites, recently viewed venues, chosen interest categories, membership and payment history, and the invoices raised against your account. For security we also keep a record of your active sessions, including approximate device information and the IP address a session was created from, so you can be told about unrecognised access.
To create and secure your account; to show you venues and classes and let you book them; to verify check-ins so venues can admit you; to run and bill your membership; to answer support requests; to detect fraud and abuse; and to understand which parts of the service are used so we can improve them. We do not make automated decisions that produce legal effects for you.
Partner venues receive the minimum needed to admit you: your name, profile photo and the booking or check-in in question. Our SMS provider receives your phone number in order to deliver verification codes. Payment providers receive the information needed to process a transaction. Map functionality is provided by Google on Android and Apple on iOS, which involves sending map requests from your device. We also use service providers for hosting and file storage who process data on our instructions. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.
Account and profile data is kept while your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your profile, photo, interests, favourites and session records. We keep booking, check-in and payment records for as long as Ethiopian tax and accounting law requires, and anonymised usage statistics that can no longer be linked back to you may be kept indefinitely.
You can view and correct most of your information directly in the app on the Edit Profile screen, and delete your account from the Profile screen. You may also ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, or object to a particular use, by writing to support@activeaddis.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the relevant Ethiopian data protection authority.
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Your login tokens are stored in the secure hardware-backed keystore your phone provides, not in ordinary app storage. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes and are never readable by us or by venue staff. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you do not reuse elsewhere.
Active Addis is not intended for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact support@activeaddis.com and we will remove it.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, where the change is material, tell you in the app before it takes effect. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights above, contact support@activeaddis.com.
